'Coronation Street' star Bruce Jones has revealed that he battled for his life after developing acute pneumonia a couple of months ago.

Jones, who plays Les Battersby in the soap, told the News of the World that he was seriously ill at the time.

"I was in so much pain I was screaming. I just wanted to die. I couldn't go on and I thought it was the end," he said.

Jones also paid tribute to his wife Sandra in the interview, saying: "Without the love of Sandra who nursed me day and night I wouldn't be here today. She kept watch over me even in the small hours, sitting me up or turning me over to help me get my breath when I thought I was going to die."

"The pain got so bad that at one point I told her, ‘I don't care if I go now'. I was praying it would end one way or the other."

Jones has now recovered from his bout of pneumonia and is looking forward to getting back to normal. "Don't worry. I'm back and Les is back," he said.
