Renfro - Ten-day jail sentence

US actor Brad Renfro pleaded no contest to a drunk-driving charge on Wednesday and, as a result, has started a ten-day jail sentence.

Renfro was immediately taken to jail from the Los Angeles court hearing where he was also fined, ordered to take 18 months of alcohol education classes and serve five years' probation.

The 23-year-old was arrested in downtown Los Angeles last November for suspicion of driving under the influence.

In December he was taken into custody after a drug sting in Skid Row district.

Last month he pleaded guilty to attempted possession of heroin and, earlier this week, was ordered to enter a drug rehabilitation program for nonviolent drug offenders.

He must return to court on 4 April for a progress report in the drug case.
