Morgan Freeman was awarded the Spencer Tracy Award for outstanding screen performances at a ceremony at the University of California in Los Angeles yesterday.
Freeman, 68, has been nominated for three Academy Awards - for his roles in 'Street Smart' (1987), 'Driving Miss Daisy' (1989) and 'The Shawshank Redemption' (1994) - and won the Best Supporting Actor award in 2004 for 'Million Dollar Baby'.
He had some advice for the students present at the ceremony: "Once you've gotten the job, there's nothing to it," he said. "If you're an actor, you're an actor. Doing it is not the hard part. The hard part is getting to do it."
Past recipients of the Tracy Award including Jimmy Stewart, Michael Douglas, Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks and Anthony Hopkins.
