American actor Brad Renfro pleaded guilty on Thursday to attempted possession of heroin in a case stemming from his arrest in December.
The former child star of films such as 'The Client and 'Apt Pupil' avoided a jail sentence but was ordered into a drug treatment programme.
Renfro, 23, was also placed on three years probation, according to a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Renfro was one of 14 people arrested in a police sting operation aimed at cracking down on drug trafficking in Los Angeles' Skid Row area.
He was discovered at the age of 12 by director Joel Schumacher and was promptly cast in his first film, 'The Client' (1994), starring Tommy Lee Jones and Susan Sarandon.
