EMI, Coldplay's record company, yesterday issued a statement saying that the band were not splitting up.
"Coldplay are not quitting. They are on the road until July, when their X&Y World Tour ends in Japan. They will then continue working on new material," said an EMI spokeswoman.
The statement is reproduced on their official website.
While accepting two awards at the Brits on Wednesday, frontman Chris Martin said "You won't see us at one of these for many, many years" leading to intense speculation about the band's future.
The group are expected to take a break following the tour before working on new ideas.
