The Kaiser Chiefs were the biggest winners at last night's Brit Awards, taking home a total of three prizes from the ceremony at London's Earls Court Arena.

The Leeds band were named Best British Group, Best British Rock Act and Best British Live Act.

Irish nominees U2 lost out to Green Day and their album, 'American Idiot', in the International Group and International Album categories.

Former army captain James Blunt took the title of Best British Male, amidst strong competition from Robbie Williams and Will Young.

He also took the prize for Best Pop Act, despite being up against Madonna and Westlife.

Blunt was also nominated for Best British Single, but that award went to Coldplay for 'Speed of Sound'. Coldplay also won Best British Album for 'X&Y'.

Scottish singer KT Tunstall walked away with the award for Best British Female, a category that included nominees Charlotte Church and Kate Bush.

Arctic Monkeys took Best British Breakthrough Act and Madonna won Best International Female.

Paul Weller was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Music award.

There were also wins for Lemar (Best British Urban Act), Kanye West (Best International Male) and Jack Johnson (Best International Breakthrough).
