The Arts Council and RTÉ have announced the four films selected for the RTÉ Dance on the Box scheme which was launched on 6 December last year.

Thirty-five applications were received from producers, directors and choreographers and eight applicants were short-listed for interview. 

The following successful projects have each been awarded €18,000:
Choreographer John Scott, director Steve Woods and producer Catherine Lyons, for their film 'Buail'.
Director Margaret Corkery, choreographer James Hosty and producer Dave Doran for 'Joyride'.
Producer Seamus Byrne, director Nick Kelly and choreographer Rónán Ó Riagáin for 'Why the Irish Dance that Way'.
Choreographer Fearghus Ó Conchúir, director Dearbhla Walsh and producer Willie White for 'The Match'.

The completed short dance films will be premiered on RTÉ Television during the International Dance Festival Ireland which runs from 21 April to 7 May 2006. 

The four films, between four to six minutes in length, will feature on a showcase edition of 'The View presents...RTÉ Dance on the Box' presented by John Kelly on Monday 24 April at 11:30pm on RTÉ One.

Speaking about this new initiative, Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council said: "This project is an example of how a partnership with RTÉ can create opportunities for artists across different art forms to work together."

David McKenna, RTÉ Television's Executive Producer Music & Arts, added: "We're very much looking forward to showing the four commissioned films."
