Former 'Coronation Street' star Thelma Barlow, who played Mavis Riley (later Mavis Wilton) in the soap, has reportedly described the show as "exceedingly boring".
According to the Manchester Evening News, Barlow, who starred in the soap for 26 years, said: "It is so different from when I was there."
"The show is so concentrated on the young, to get the young audience. Often nowadays, actors are cast on what they look and sound like, not necessarily on their ability," she said.
"It is also exceedingly boring. You think, 'Who else can they sleep with? They've done the rounds now'."
Barlow left the show in 1997, in a storyline which involved her character Mavis leaving Coronation Street to set up a bed and breakfast business.
"It seems that is all there is happening. It isn't just 'Coronation Street' - it runs through the whole of TV and film. It's like there is nothing else in life but sex," the actress said.
