Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West were among the winners at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last night.

All three artists were nominated in eight categories and won three awards each.

Carey, who had previously only won two Grammys in her career, won the awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song (both for 'We Belong Together') and Best Contemporary R&B Album ('The Emancipation of Mimi').

Both Carey and West missed out on the Album of the Year award, which went to U2.

Legend won Best New Artist, Best R&B Album ('Get Lifted') and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance ('Ordinary People').

West won Best Rap Album ('Late Registration'), Best Rap Song ('Diamonds from Sierra Leone') and Best Rap Solo Performance ('Gold Digger').

The Record of the Year award went to Green Day for 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' while Kelly Clarkson won Best Pop Vocal Album for 'Breakaway'.
