Nicole Kidman is taking up a new role as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.
Kidman will work with the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) in advancing women's rights; campaigning to end violence against women will be part of her remit.
Speaking to the Associated Press about her new role yesterday, Kidman said: "I hope that I can act as a conduit, that I can be the person who tells some of these stories."
"The way in which I was raised and the things I've seen in my life have led me toward this," she added.
