Previously-unknown Chantelle Houghton has defeated a host of famous faces to win Celebrity Big Brother.
The 22-year-old was originally a novelty addition to the house and instructed to pretend she was a pop star.
Upon hearing the result, she wiped away tears and hugged entertainer Michael Barrymore, who came a respectable second and may have rejuvenated his career after scandals and breakdowns.
The unlikely pair beat off competition to be the last two left in the house.
The first of the final day survivors to go was former Baywatch actress Traci Bingham. She was followed by 80s singer Pete Burns, who had provoked fury from animal rights activists by claiming to wear a gorilla skin coat in the house.
Next to go was Preston who had been regarded by many as a possible winner. Welsh singer Maggot finished in third place and seemed unconcerned not to have won.
Chantelle had been a red-hot favourite to win and bookies are now facing a huge payout as result.
Overall, three million votes were cast by the public during the series, raising £480,000 for the 11 charities nominated by the contestants.
