Following an autopsy, medical examiners have said that they will not be able to determine how actor Chris Penn died until toxicology tests are complete.
The 40-year-old actor, who played Nice Guy Eddie Cabot in 'Reservoir Dogs', was found dead at his home in Santa Monica on Tuesday, according to reports.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has said that their initial autopsy revealed no signs of foul play or suicide, which suggested a natural or accidental cause of death.
Spokesperson Craig Harvey said: "He does have a history of drug use. We don't know how recent, or if any drug use occurred up to the time of his death. We just need to rule it out before we close the case."
"It could be a contributing factor, it could be a primary factor or it could be not a factor at all," he said.
A publicist for Sean Penn, who is Chris' older brother, said that the family "would appreciate the media's respect of their privacy during this difficult time."
Long-time friend Wynona Ryder said: "I really hope people go back and watch his movies. He was such a fantastic actor. He's not just Sean's little brother. He was Chris Penn."
