'Celebrity Big Brother' evictee George Galloway has said that the widespread condemnation of his decision to appear on the reality show is "sanctimonious humbug".

After he was evicted from the show last night, in a double-eviction which also saw basketball star Dennis Rodman get the boot, Galloway said of all the fuss: "They seem to have got it all out of proportion".

"There are so many things happening in the world and they seem to have been devoting acres of newsprint to a reality TV show," he said.

Galloway, who came in for criticism from his fellow MPs, said: "The way they have been going at me would suggest that they think they have something to fear from me and the Respect Party."

"The British parliament is full of people who jet around the world on fact-finding junkets to exotic places every day of the week and they are never hauled over the coals," Galloway said.

When Dennis Rodman was asked if he was upset to be evicted from the house, he said: "It's all about TV. It's a game, it's a show. Just because I'm evicted from the house I'm still a star, I'm still famous."

"You guys do something different over here. About a week ago someone said, 'you don't have to be famous to walk on the red carpet - once you walk on the red carpet you're famous'," he said.

Fake celebrity Chantelle Houghton was nominated with George and Dennis but survived the public eviction vote.
