A new series, loosely based on the childhood of R&B singer Alicia Keys, is being developed in the US.

MTV News reports that the singer has inked a deal with the UPN network in the US for the show, which would be an hour-long drama series.

Keys was raised by her mother in New York's Hell's Kitchen; she began classical piano lessons at age seven and by 16 had an album deal.

It is not clear what stage of the singer's early years the series will focus on.

Keys recently completed her first film role, starring as an assassin opposite Ben Affleck and Ryan Reynolds in 'Smokin' Aces'.
