Hilary Swank and her actor husband Chad Lowe have separated after eight years of marriage.
A statement by Swank's spokesperson Troy Nankin said: "Hilary and Chad have decided to separate but they are hopeful they'll be able to get through this tough time."
He declined to discuss the reasons for the split.
Double Oscar winner Swank and Lowe married in September 1997, five years after meeting at a party, and have kept their private lives out of the media spotlight.
