Teen star Lindsay Lohan has revealed to Vanity Fair magazine in the US that she has battled bulimia and tried drugs.

In an interview in the February issue of the magazine, the 19-year-old said of her bulimia: "I was making myself sick. I was sick and I had people sit me down and say 'You're going to die if you don't take care of yourself.'"

Lohan revealed that it was the producer of the US TV show 'Saturday Night Live' who staged an intervention and after seeing herself on the show she realised how ill she really was.

"I saw that 'SNL' after I did it. My arms were disgusting. I had no arms," she said.

The teenager was the subject of rampant media speculation last year about her weight loss but denied in interviews that she was bulimic.

Lohan, who was admitted to hospital in Miami on Monday after suffering a severe asthma attack, was hospitalised last year for two weeks with a swollen liver and kidney infection.

In the Vanity Fair interview Lohan also said that she had used drugs "a little" but then tried to retract the admission.

The New York Post claims that her publicist contacted Vanity Fair the day after the interview to try to get the confession omitted from the article.
