Richard De Angelis, a member of the cast of the acclaimed HBO police drama series 'The Wire', died in the US last week.

De Angelis, who was 73, died of congestive heart failure at his home in Maryland on 28 December; the actor had also been battling prostate cancer.

De Angelis played Baltimore Police Colonel Raymond Foerster on 'The Wire'; the series has built up a cult following in Ireland where it has been screened on TG4.

De Angelis' other credits included 'Homicide: The Movie' and the John Waters films 'Cecil B Demented' and 'A Dirty Shame'.
