With their mammoth 'American Idiot' tour having drawn to a close with Australian dates in December, Green Day are now turning their attentions toward their new album.
Speaking to Billboard, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said discussions about the new album would begin this month.
"We'll start with silence and that's how we'll be able to find the inspiration to find another record," said the singer.
Armstrong revealed that the band already had ideas for new songs.
