On the eve of his full 'Doctor Who' debut, actor David Tennant has spoken of his delight at being cast as the time-travelling hero.
In an interview to be broadcast on 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross' on 23 December, Tennant says: "It's almost too exciting, all a bit daunting. It was the most successful TV show of the year; if it all goes wrong it's my fault. I loved it when I was a kid. Tom Baker was the one I grew up with."
The actor also speaks of his commitment to the role: "It's a bit of a gamble. The danger is that you get stuck with it, but the only other option is you don't do it. I didn't want to be that guy. As long as I don't get the sack, I'll do another series."
Tennant will be seen in his first full episode in the 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special, which will be broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day.
The episode is titled 'Doctor Who - The Christmas Invasion' and finds the unconscious Doctor spending Christmas at the family home of his assistant Rose (Billie Piper).
Among the dangers encountered in the special episode are a brass band of masked Santas, a killer Christmas tree and a monstrous race bent on world domination.
