Elton John and his long-term partner David Furnish have taken part in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, outside London, as the new same sex partnership laws come into effect in England and Wales.
The couple's parents acted as witnesses for the ceremony at the Guildhall in Windsor. Hundreds of fans gathered to wish the couple well.
John and Furnish posed for photographs and greeted the well-wishers who had gathered as they made their way into the Guildhall.
The new law, which came into effect in Northern Ireland on Monday, gives gay couples the same property and inheritance rights as married heterosexuals and entitles them to the same pension, immigration and tax benefits.
