'X Factor' winner Shayne Ward has said that he was "so scared" before the results of the public vote were announced in the final of the show at the weekend.

The 21-year-old also said that he plans to take his mother on a holiday to celebrate his win, explaining that he himself had only ever been out of the country once or twice.

Speaking to GMTV, Shayne Ward said: "Everybody deserves to give their mum back something but she's brought up seven kids."

"I just want to give her something back. She's never been on holiday," the singer said.

Almost 11 million people voted for the three remaining acts in Saturday night's live final.

Andy Abraham competed with Shayne Ward for public votes after Journey South were the first act to be knocked out on the night.

Shayne Ward has now secured a £1m record deal with Simon Cowell's label Syco Music and will release his first single 'That's My Goal' this week.

Watching a playback of the moment he was crowned winner, the singer said: "It does not seem real. I was so scared if I'm honest. I have never been so scared in all my life."
