Simon Cowell, who is currently acting as a judge on 'The X Factor', is set to make an old-fashioned variety show, which will be hosted by Paul O'Grady.

According to reports, the talent show will be similar to the 1970s programme 'The Gong Show' and will feature amateur singers, dancers and individuals with more eccentric talents.

O'Grady confirmed that he would be hosting the show, rather than acting as a panellist. "You'd need me to look after the talent with those kind of pitbulls," he said.

"There will be singers and dancers, all that kind of stuff. There are lots of people doing that kind of thing in pubs or clubs. It's all so eccentric and it's not on TV."

Cowell said: "We're going to have magicians, jugglers and lots of dog acts. It's going to be like the Gong Show."

An ITV spokesperson confirmed: "We're very excited about the pilot and are in discussions about turning the pilot into a series for ITV."
