Lucas & Walliams - Up for awards

'Extras' will be pitted against 'Little Britain' in the 16th annual British Comedy Awards tonight. Ricky Gervais' successful follow-up to 'The Office' has bagged a record five nominations at this year's awards.

The hit show has been shortlisted for the Best Comedy, New Comedy, TV Comedy Actor, Comedy Actress and Comedy Newcomer.

Last year, Gervais and his creation 'The Office' were left in the shade when 'Little Britain' triumphed at the event. Now Gervais is up against comedy pair David Walliams and Matt Lucas for Best TV Comedy Actor for the second consecutive year.

Other nominees include Gervais' co-star in 'Extras', Ashley Jensen. The Scottish actress has been shortlisted for Best TV Comedy Actress with Catherine 'am I bovvered?' Tate and the 'Green Wing's Tamsin Greig.

Jensen, who plays Maggie, is also up for Best Comedy Newcomer, against Chris Addison of BBC4 comedy 'The Thick of It' and David Mitchell, known for the 'Peep Show'.

Talent show 'The X Factor' is up for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme, against 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' and 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross'.

Paul O'Grady will be hoping to beat both in the Best Comedy Entertainment Personality category.

Victoria Wood and Julie Walters will get an outstanding achievement award for their work together over the past 25 years.

Guest presenters will include Australian comedy duo Kath and Kim, Jackie Stallone and I'm A Celebrity winner Carol Thatcher.

The awards will be hosted by Jonathan Ross.
