Irish actors Cillian Murphy and Pierce Brosnan have been nominated for Golden Globes for their roles in Neil Jordan's 'Breakfast on Pluto' and 'The Matador' respectively.
Both actors are competing in the category for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
Nominations for the 63rd annual Golden Globes were announced today by Kate Beckinsale and Mark Wahlberg.
Murphy and Brosnan will be up against Jeff Daniels in 'The Squid and the Whale', Johnny Depp in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', Nathan Lane in 'The Producers' and Joaquin Phoenix in 'Walk the Line.'
Ang Lee's drama-romance 'Brokeback Mountain', based on a short story by E Annie Proulx, received seven Golden Globe nominations - including Best Dramatic Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Score and Best Song.
Other Best Drama Picture contenders are thriller 'The Constant Gardener', Edward R Murrow tale 'Good Night, and Good Luck', mobster story 'A History of Violence' and infidelity drama 'Match Point'.
In the category for Best Musical or Comedy Film are theatre tale 'Mrs Henderson Presents', Jane Austen adaptation 'Pride & Prejudice', Broadway musical 'The Producers', divorce story 'The Squid and the Whale' and the Johnny Cash biopic 'Walk the Line'.
The Best Actress in a Drama nominees are Maria Bello in 'A History of Violence', Gwyneth Paltrow in 'Proof', Charlize Theron in 'North Country' and Ziyi Zhang in 'Memoirs of a Geisha'.
The nominees for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy are Judi Dench ('Mrs Henderson Presents'), Keira Knightley ('Pride & Prejudice'), Laura Linney ('The Squid and the Whale'), Sarah Jessica Parker ('The Family Stone') and Reese Witherspoon ('Walk the Line').
Best Supporting Actress nominees are Scarlett Johansson for 'Match Point', Shirley MacLaine for 'In Her Shoes', Frances McDormand for 'North Country', Rachel Weisz for 'The Constant Gardener' and Michelle Williams for 'Brokeback Mountain'.
Nominees for Supporting Actor included George Clooney for 'Syriana', Matt Dillon for 'Crash', Will Ferrell for 'The Producers', Paul Giamatti for 'Cinderella Man' and Bob Hoskins for 'Mrs Henderson Presents.'
Best original score nominees were 'Syriana', 'King Kong', 'Brokeback Mountain', 'The Chronicles of Narnia', and 'Memoirs of a Geisha.'
Two years ago, the Golden Globes correctly predicted winners in all key Oscar categories.
The awards will be announced on 16 January, five days before polls close for Oscar voters. Oscar nominations are released on 31 January and the awards will be presented 5 March.
The Golden Globes feature 13 categories for film and eleven for television.
Anthony Hopkins will receive the Cecil B DeMille Award for Lifetime Achievement at this year's ceremony.
