Five Grammy nominations for U2

U2 have been nominated for five Grammy awards, including Album of the Year and Best Rock Album, for 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb'.

Album single 'Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own' is up for Song Of The Year and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal while 'City Of Blinding Lights' has been nominated for Best Rock Song. 

Mariah Carey received a total of eight Grammy nominations for her comeback album, 'The Emancipation of Mimi'.

Rapper Kanye West and newcomer John Legend also received eight nods.

Carey will be competing with West in the categories for Album and Record of the Year for his song 'Gold Digger' and album 'Late Registration'.

Soul singer Legend's nominations included best new artist. "I feel incredible," said Legend, who debuted this year with 'Get Lifted'. "You put a lot of expectations into what you want the record to be."

Other multiple nominees included 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani and Bruce Springsteen.
