Irish film 'Pavee Lackeen' won two prestigious prizes at the Mannheim International Film Festival in Germany last weekend.
The International Jury awarded director Perry Ogden the Rainer Werner Fassbinder Prize of Mannheim-Heidelberg for: "a portrayal of an outcast family through a camera that brings fiction and reality into a new realm of perception."
'Pavee Lackeen' also won the Ecumenical Film Prize, with the Jury commenting: "The director's achievement lies in his portrayal of the courage and vitality of the young protagonists without giving rise to false hopes."
'Pavee Lackeen' tells the story of a ten-year-old Irish Traveller girl who lives with her mother and siblings on the side of the road in a desolate industrialised area of Dublin.
The film also took two high profile awards at the recent Irish Film & Television Awards and the 10th Annual Satyajit Ray Award Winner at the 2005 London Film Festival.
'Pavee Lackeen' also won Best First Feature Audience Award at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.
