A songwriter who took legal action against pop singer Britney Spears for alleged copyright infringement has had his case dismissed.

Steve Wallace claimed that he had written the song 'Sometimes' 15 years ago, but acknowledged that he had failed to formally copyright it until 2003.

US District Judge John D. Tinder dismissed the case after hearing the evidence. Wallace's attorney did not comment on the outcome of the case.

David R. Baum, who acted as an attorney for Spears, said: "I cannot emphasise enough this was not a settlement but a dismissal", saying that no money would be changing hands.

Spears obtained a US copyright for the song 'Sometimes' in 1999. It later appeared on her albums 'Baby One More Time' and 'Greatest Hits: My Prerogative'.
