Robbie Williams has topped a poll to find the most successful transition from band member to solo artist.

The former 'Take That' singer beat competition from ex-Police frontman Sting, who came second on the list, compiled as a result of a survey of 3,000 music fans for Goodfellas.

Fatboy Slim, formerly known as Norman Cook in the Housemartins, came third in the poll, followed by former Destiny's Child star Beyoncé Knowles in fourth place and ex-No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani in fifth place.

Justin Timberlake (NSync), Phil Collins (Genesis), Diana Ross (The Supremes), Paul McCartney (The Beatles) and Rachel Stevens (S Club 7) also featured in the top ten of the list.

Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham topped the poll to find the worst transition from band member to solo artist, followed by Take That's Gary Barlow, Boyzone's Stephen Gately, Westlife's Brian McFadden and Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
