Actor George Clooney has denied that he was involved in a scuffle outside a London bar, after media reports suggested that he was involved in a row with a security guard.

According to a statement released by the actor, he was coming to the assistance of a woman, whom he believed was being mistreated.

Clooney said in the statement: "I won't stand by while someone is being insulted and maligned."
