It has been announced that David Kelly is to be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Irish Film and Television Awards.

Kelly's film and television career spans six decades and he was most recently seen on cinema screens as Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

Among his many credits are 'Waking Ned', 'Into the West', 'Strumpet City', 'Glenroe', 'Ballykissangel' and 'Fawlty Towers'.

Commenting on the award, Kelly said: "I still marvel at the fact that I have achieved my only real goal in life - to be an actor. That a group of kind people wish to reward me for this is moving and I am grateful beyond words."

The Irish Film and Television Awards take place on 5 November and will be screened on RTÉ One.
