Actress Sally Lindsay, who plays barmaid Shelley Unwin in 'Coronation Street', is leaving the soap.
After five years with the ITV show, Lindsay will leave in nine months, when her current contract ends.
It is expected that the soap's bosses will not kill off her character, so that Unwin could return in the future.
Commenting on her decision, Unwin said: "I think that Shelley has been through so much as a character during my time here, and I am really looking forward to working on different projects."
She continued: "I have and always will have a massive affection for 'Coronation Street', and I want to thank all the cast, production team and writers for everything that has happened for me and my character."
