An event to celebrate the life of the late DJ John Peel is being held at Dublin venue The Hub in Temple Bar tonight, Thursday 13 October.

The event will begin at 9pm and features acts such as Luggage, Hey Paulette, House of Mexico and Female Hercules.

Veteran BBC broadcaster Peel died of a heart attack last October, while on holiday in Peru. His career had spanned 40 years and he is credited with discovering many bands during that time.

The inaugural John Peel Day is being held in venues across the UK today, the one-year anniversary of the broadcaster's last show.

Other events are also being held across Europe and in the US, Canada and New Zealand.

Entry to the first Irish John Peel Day event at The Hub costs €8, with all proceeds going to Amnesty International.
