'Coronation Street' character Les Battersby is set to come to blows with rock stars Status Quo, when the band make a guest appearance in the soap later this month.
In the special episode, which will be aired on 23 September, Status Quo will drop into the Rovers Return for a drink before they play a nearby gig.
When Chesney (Sam Aston) runs home to tell Les (Bruce Jones) that his favourite group are in his local pub, Les returns with an armful of albums for them to sign. But Francis Rossi isn't too pleased to see him, recognising Les as the deranged fan who assaulted him years previously while he was performing.
Rick Parfitt then attacks Les outside the pub, leaving him lying in the street. The band is appearing in 'Coronation Street' as part of the soap's 50th anniversary celebrations.
Rossi said: "Both Rick and I are lifelong fans of Coronation Street so to be in the Rovers with the regulars is an ambition fulfilled."
Parfitt commented: "We never miss an episode, down to our gigs beginning after 8.15pm so we can see the show in our dressing rooms. Being in 'Coronation Street' is like being part of British history."
'Coronation Street' producer Tony Wood said: "It's great testament to the show when a band like Status Quo come forward wanting to film with us."
Status Quo are also due to make an appearance in the soap in October when they play at Les and Cilla's wedding reception.
