Actor Bob Denver, renowned for his role in the 1960s comedy series 'Gilligan's Island', has died. He was 70.
According to his agent Mike Eisenstadt, Denver died at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Centre in North Carolina, as a result of complications from cancer.
Denver played the role of castaway Willie Gilligan in 'Gilligan's Island', which ran from 1964 to 1967, starring alongside Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer and Alan Hale Jr.
He was also famous for portraying bongo-playing beatnik Maynard G. Krebs in 'The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis', aired from 1959 to 1963.
Denver later went on to have a successful Broadway career and also starred in remakes and revivals of the television shows in which he had previously appeared.
He is survived by his wife Dreama, whom he had been married to for 28-years, and his four children.
