Claims that singer Courtney Love is carrying Steve Coogan's baby were denied by both stars today.

The showbiz world was left stunned by reports that the wild woman of rock was pregnant by the 'Alan Partridge' star after a two-week fling.

But Coogan's spokeswoman told the BBC: "It's nonsense."

Reports published earlier this month claimed Love, 41, the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, had an affair with Coogan while they were both staying at the Sunset Marquis hotel in West Hollywood.

In a statement released today, Love denied the claims.

"Courtney Love wishes to make it clear that she denies recent stories suggesting she is pregnant or has had a relationship with Steve Coogan," said the statement released by Sanctuary Artist Management.

She confirms that she and Steve are good friends and have met a few times in Los Angeles.

Love, who has an 11-year-old daughter by Cobain, is currently in rehab after admitting using drugs while on probation for three separate drug and assault cases.

In July, Coogan's wife Caroline Hickman was granted a divorce on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour.

She had married the comedian in December 2002.
