The BBC has commissioned a second series of Ricky Gervais' sitcom 'Extras', it has been announced.
Gervais, who devised the series with comedy writer Stephen Merchant, said: "It's a good job the BBC offered us a second series, Stephen and I had already booked the studio and promised about 30 actors a job."
"Mind you, we'd done that before the first series had been commissioned too," he joked. Gervais will return in the role of struggling actor Andy in the next series, with Merchant reprising his role as his agent. Ashley Jensen, who stars as extra Maggie Jacobs in the show, will also return for the second series.
BBC2 Controller Roly Keating said: "I'm thrilled that Ricky and Stephen will be making a second series and that the audience will be able to share more of Andy and Maggie's excruciating experiences in the world of showbiz."
According to reports Brad Pitt and Madonna are interested in starring in the new series of 'Extras'.
The BBC is currently investigating a infringement of copyright in relation to the show, after an episode of 'Extras', featuring Samuel L Jackson, was leaked on the Internet.
The episode, which was due to be aired on Thursday 18 August, was displayed on a Swedish website, offering people the chance to download it.
