Mike Reid set for Albert Square return

It has been confirmed that actor Mike Reid will return to 'EastEnders' in the role of Frank Butcher, after an absence of five years.

Butcher is set to come back to Albert Square for the murder trial of his daughter Janine.

After leaving the soap in 2000, Reid made a brief return to 'EastEnders' in 2002, when his wife Peggy flew over to Spain to attend his funeral, only to discover that he was still alive.

According to reports, the character is due to make his return in September of this year.

An 'EastEnders' insider said: "Frank is only back for the duration of Janine's trial but while he is there his presence ruffles a lot of feathers. Old feelings resurface and old loyalties are tested."

Actress Charlie Brooks, who played Janine Evans in the soap - before her departure last year, will not be returning for the trial storyline, according to reports.

Actor Matt Di Angelo is also set to join the cast of 'EastEnders', playing Pat Butcher's nephew Deano Wicks.

Di Angleo said: "I can't wait to join EastEnders to play Deano. He's a combination of a young Alfie Moon and Del Boy. He rates himself quite highly too so he's going to have lots of fun in the Square."
