Comedian Ricky Gervais has said that appearing in his own episode of the television show 'The Simpsons' is a dream come true.

Gervais, who shot to fame in the television series 'The Office', is the first British writer to script a full episode of 'The Simpsons'.

"When I first got into comedy it was my ambition to get a joke on 'The Simpsons'," he said.  "Now I've got a whole episode. I can just imagine waking up one day and finding out it's all been a dream."

Gervais' episode of 'The Simpsons' is due to be screened next March. He will voice a character called Charles who takes part in an episode of 'Wife Swap' with the Simpson family.

Talking about 'The Simpsons', which he described as the best show on earth, Gervais said: "It's audacious, it's clever, it's got heart."
