Mel Gibson is to direct a new historic film 'Apocalypto', with the story to be told through ancient languages.

The film, which will begin shooting in Mexico in October, is due to be released in summer 2006. Gibson is set to produce and direct the movie, which will feature Mayan dialects, from his own script.

According to spokesperson Alan Nierob, the film's cast will be made up of unknown performers native to the region of Mexico where the film is being shot.

The story of 'Apocalypto' is described as a "unique adventure" set over 500 years ago. The title for the movie was taken from the Greek word for a new beginning or unveiling.
