Actor Jude Law has publicly apologised to his actress fiancé Sienna Miller, after newspaper reports claimed that he had an affair with nanny Daisy Wright.

Law issued a statement following the reports which suggested that he had a fling with 26-year-old Daisy Wright, who cared for one of his three children.

Law said: "Following the reports in today's papers, I just want to say I am deeply ashamed and upset that I've hurt Sienna and the people most close to us."

"I want to publicly apologise to Sienna and our respective families for the pain that I have caused."

"There is no defence for my actions which I sincerely regret and I ask that you respect our privacy at this very difficult time," he said.

Law recently divorced his former wife Sadie Frost and revealed that he was planning to marry Miller, who starred opposite him in the 2004 film 'Alfie'.

Miller is currently appearing in a West End production of 'As You Like It'. Her spokesperson confirmed that she will appear as scheduled in tonight's show, despite the recent revelations.
