Hollywood star George Clooney was the recipient of the Spirit of Independence Award at this year's Los Angeles Film Festival.
The award honours individuals with a commitment to independent filmmaking.
Clooney has gone from television star, most notable in 'ER', to film star, executive producer and director. He is partners with director Steven Soderbergh in the production company Section Eight.
As well as roles in over 20 films, Clooney made his directorial debut with 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' and will also direct 'Goodnight and Good Luck', which he also co-wrote.
He stars in the up-coming 'Syriana', also starring Matt Damon.
