Plans are being discussed to broadcast some of Elton John's concert in Dublin on Saturday as part of Live 8 events taking place around the world, it emerged today.

The music star is set to perform at the Live 8 concert in London on Saturday afternoon before jetting off for his gig in the RDS in  Dublin.

A spokeswoman for the organisers of the show said discussions were under way to record some of the show for the Live 8 broadcast, although nothing has yet been confirmed.

In addition, Irish fans will get to enjoy his London performance, following arrangements to broadcast coverage of the Live 8 concerts at his show in the RDS Arena.

Concert organisers will be opening the gates at RDS at 1pm and will be providing two giant screens so fans can watch Elton and a host of other stars as they take to stages around the world.

The screens will continue to broadcast the Live 8 footage until the first act comes on at the Dublin concert.

Elton is being supported in the Dublin gig by Rufus Wainwright and James Blunt.
