ER producers want Clooney back

'ER' producers are reportedly trying to convince George Clooney to return to the show in order to win back viewers

The award-winning show has suffered plummeting ratings after a number of leading cast members, including Clooney, Anthony Edwards and Noah Wyle, left to pursue movie careers.

Now producers are trying to lure back the 44-year-old actor as well as his onscreen love interest, played by Julianna Marguiles - using the fact the show launched his career as leverage.

A source says: "The producers have discussed luring back George and Julianna  but they know the chances of getting George back into the fold - even an episode or two - are pretty slim. He is out of their league now that he is a huge success on the big screen.”

"The only thing that producers can hope for is an 'I owe you one' factor, since the show really made George a big star," a source explained.

Clooney was last seen on the series when his character, Doug Ross, reunited with nurse Carol Hathaway.
