Primal Scream singer Bobby Gillespie has denied that he insulted pop star Kylie Minogue, during his performance at the Glastonbury Festival.
The singer was directed off stage by a festival organiser after taunting the crowd by screaming: "Did anyone come to see Kylie?….". He also reportedly made derogatory remarks about her replacement Basement Jaxx.
Minogue was due to headline the main stage at the festival but was forced to pull out of the event after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She is currently receiving treatment in Australia.
However, a spokesperson for Gillespie claimed that the singer was a friend of Minogue's and would never say anything bad about her.
"This was clearly not an insult to Kylie," he said. "This is a storm in a teacup and someone trying to make a story out of nothing."
Gillespie's spokesperson also said: "The whole evening was running late because one of the earlier bands had overrun. The crowd were chanting for more and Bobby wanted to stay on, but a stage manager said he had to finish."
Both Basement Jaxx and Coldplay performed cover versions of Minogue's hit 'Can't Get You Out of My Head' at the festival as a tribute to the absent singer.
