Actress Nikki Sanderson has announced that she is leaving 'Coronation Street', after playing Candice Stowe for over five years.
Sanderson is due to be written out of the soap this autumn, but it has not been made clear yet whether her character will be given the opportunity to return at a later date.
Speaking about her decision to quit the soap, Sanderson said: "I made the decision to leave as it is time for me and Candice to leave the cobbles on a high. I am really sad to be going because I will miss everybody."
"I have had the most fantastic and memorable time here at 'Corrie'," she said. The actress is reportedly interested in pursuing a singing career after she leaves the soap.
Sanderson's on-screen and off-screen boyfriend Danny Young, who plays Warren Baldwin in 'Coronation Street', was recently axed from the soap.
'Coronation Street' producer Tony Wood said: "Nikki has indicated that she wants to try her hand at other projects - it therefore suits 'Coronation Street' and Nikki for the character to be written out this autumn."
"Nikki has been a real asset to the show and the writers have had great fun writing for Candice. We wish her all the best for the future," the producer said.
