'Coronation Street' writers have accused ITV bosses of harming the soap by moving it around the schedules.
For the past two weeks ITV has ditched the traditional 7.30pm Monday slot and run an hour-long episode starting at 8.30pm.
The switch is aimed at encouraging viewers to stick around and watch the follow-on show 'Celebrity Love Island'.
But 'Coronation Street' scriptwriters are angry that their show is being used to prop up the series about C-list celebrities doing nothing on a desert island.
The past two Mondays have seen 'Coronation Street' ratings dip as viewers struggle to find it in the schedules.
"Moving Monday's episode is the straw that broke the camel's back," leading writer John Fay told Broadcast magazine.
"It's madness to hobble a tried and tested thoroughbred by tying it to something heading for the knackers' yard."
