Actor Macaulay Culkin has been given a deferred sentence, after pleading guilty to misdemeanour charges of possession of medication without a prescription and possession of marijuana.

The former child star was arrested on 17 September 2004 after police pulled over a car in which he was a passenger. Over half an ounce of marijuana and several Xanax tablets, used to treat depression and panic disorders, were recovered from the car.

Assistant District Attorney Greg Mashburn said that Culkin had completed all the requirements of his probation, including drug and alcohol assessments.

The actor, who shot to fame in the 'Home Alone' films, was given a one-year deferred sentence for each of the charges, at Oklahoma County District Court yesterday.
