Actor Todd Carty quits The Bill

Actor Todd Carty is quitting ITV show 'The Bill' after two years playing evil policeman Gabriel Kent.

According to The Sun newspaper, bosses on the long-running drama were stunned at his decision, which he announced on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old, who previously starred in 'EastEnders' as Aids victim Mark Fowler for 12 years, told the paper: "From start to finish, playing Gabriel has been utterly fantastic."

"The storylines I’ve been given have been first-rate and although I will really miss playing him, it’s about time that Gabriel got his comeuppance.”

The character was first introduced in July 2003 and immediately became the show’s resident baddie.

A spokesperson for 'The Bill' commented: "We are very sad to see Todd go, although totally support his decision and wish him well. Todd has been amazing both on and off screen and will be missed."
