'Withnail and I' director Bruce Robinson is to direct Johnny Depp in the big screen version of author Hunter S Thompson's 'The Rum Diary'.
Variety reports that Depp, who is also working as executive producer on the film, picked Robinson to direct and adapt the late author's book for the screen.
Depp, who played Thompson in 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas', will again portray the author in the film, which will follow his experiences in Puerto Rico in the late 1950s.
Production on the film will begin when Depp has completed work on the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' sequels.
