Scott show opening in Cork tonight

The first solo exhibition of new work by Patrick Scott, one of the country's leading living artists, opens in Cork at the Fenton Gallery later tonight.

Originally from Kilbrittan in County Cork, the 85-year-old painter originally trained as an architect but has worked as an artist and sometimes as a designer for most of his life.

Over 20 new paintings will be shown in the exhibition, which is the artist's first commercial show in 10 years.

Scott's work is in all the major Irish public collections, as well as international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Mitsubishi Bank in Tokyo and the Gulf Oil Corporation in Pittsburgh.

Gallery owner Nuala Fenton says the exhibition is likely to be one of the most important events to take place in Cork during its year as European Capital of Culture.
